My 1997 Toyota Supra Turbo - Racing
(Videos Are On This Page At Bottom)
(Disclaimer)

I like to race this car, as well - in many forms. I like road racing on a real racetrack the most.  It requires and develops immense driver skill and allows the great handling qualities in the car to really show through, in addition to just great acceleration and power.  Racing on a real racetrack is safer than the alternative, while still allowing you to push the car in ways you don't normally get to on public roads.  :)  Building a straight line monster is one thing . . . but building and driving a car that can take on the twisties in addition to do well in a straight line is quite another.

As far as road racing goes, I've had the opportunity to run at MotorSport Ranch during a Supra meet there. I saw so many exotic cars at this event, and got around 17 to 20 miles on the track. To see the page I created for this event (so much to talk about, so many great pictures, etc.) . . . visit The Supras' Day at MSR if you get a chance!  That is also where the picture at the top was taken.  I've also gotten to run at the Blimp Base in Hitchcock (near Houston) at the TX2K1 National Supra meet.  That was such a blast, I learned the most there and had a ton of fun, although I completely tore up a set of tires . . . they lasted 36 laps around that track!  See the tires that were only one day old after a race day:  Front, Back

Note: I have not yet had a chance to take my car to the drag strip since the turbo/fuel upgrade, but I will be posting numbers as soon as I get to. :)

I've drag raced at Texas Motorplex, River City Raceway, Houston Raceway Park, and Temple Academy Raceway.  I haven't gotten a chance to run at the track with my current single turbo/fuel system setup, but the best I've done when I was on the stock turbo setup (without Nitrous) was 12.28 at 124.4 mph.  This run was plagued with traction troubles on the street tires I had out there. I couldn't get traction from a start (ridiculous 60' time), and I couldn't use the Nitrous Oxide as I wanted to, 'cause that would only worsen the traction troubles.  My clutch also doesn't facilitate drag launching very well.  We'll see what happens when I can rerun on drag radials and the new turbo/fuel setup. I anticipate a large difference.

To see a couple other timeslips of notable races . . . see below:

Routine Run Before Nitrous Installation (12.49, I'm #76)

I've won trophies from the the few competitive drag events I've raced at. First was second place in drag races held at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX.  On September 21, 2001 . . . the car qualified 4th for Quick Eight in the Sport Compact Car Challenge at River City Raceway.  On December 14, 2001 . . . I won 3rd in the Quick Eight class at the 2001 Import Shootout. On October 11, 2002 . . . I was eliminated from Quick 8 as I missed second gear during a run. :-(

"Street Racing" has become quite controversial, so I have setup a page to discuss my thoughts on that a little bit, show you how I have found a solution to the problems that arise with it, and tell some stories about it.  Lil' Viv's Street Racing Page
