As you may have already seen, I love attending various automotive events sponsored by various companies where I get to drive the vehicles in varying situations! On 4/2/2005, I got to attend the GM Auto Show in Motion event with my girlfriend, Novie, and my good friend, Zach. At the same time, we ran into many of my friends at the event (Josh, Tiem, and some other folks from way back in high school!).

After a brief orientation and registration, we were released to go experience various events. This event was a little different, the obvious biggest attractions were driving the Hummers on the off road course and driving the new C6 Corvette on the sport course. However, to participate in either of those events, you needed to "qualify," first. To drive the Hummer, you had to drive on the Light Truck course. In order to drive the Corvette or GTO, you had to drive a regular car on one of the performance courses.
There were several different courses setup. We started on the passenger courses and drove miscellaneous cars. I was less interested in driving cars like the Cobalt and stuff like that. We waited in line to drive some of the luxury cars. I enjoyed driving a manual transmission Cadillac CTS that broke the wheels lose on the 1-2 shift! I also gave various cars like the Cadillac Deville & BMW 5-Series a try. I was shockingly disappointed with the big Cadillacs, wondering why someone would buy those over the German competition that was comparitively priced. (Image: Novie & I Leaving a CTS.)

After some of the passenger cars, and since we were qualified at this point . . . we went on to drive the fun stuff, the performance cars. We started with the Pontiac GTO's. The GTO's were very fun to throw around corners, so much fun that my buddy Zach got yelled at by the event coordinators for powersliding! :-) (Image: Novie & Vivek Driving a Yellow GTO.)

We had the opportunity to drive a CTS-V or the Corvette C6, but we had to choose one. We obviously all chose the Corvette C6.

Before we got to have fun and play in the Hummer, we had to drive the light trucks/SUV's on street courses (which was quite fun it its own right). We started with the SSR Sport Truck.

(Image: Lineup of Street Trucks) We also drove some of the less exciting cars as well, (Image: Us Driving an Envoy). And, finally . . . we move onto the portion of the event that I enjoyed the most . . . the Off Road portion since this is something I do not get to do that often.

That visual tour of the off road portion pretty much sums it up. Being a GM driving event, obviously the Hummer did very well on all the tasks. :-)
That basically sums up my experience at the GM Auto Show in Motion (2005, Dallas), and I hope to attend another one in the future!
