Toby Shortly After We Got Him (A Puppy)*

Scroll through to see all the pictures, and there is an index of other pictures of Toby at the bottom.  At various points on this page, I wrote Toby's biography. =)

Toby & My Shoes . . . Another Picture

Kind Of A Disclaimer:  Keep in mind Toby is scared of the camera, which is why he appears scared in so many of the pictures! =P Also, I only had a digital camera after Toby had moved to Austin from Dallas . . . so, most of the pictures will be at the bottom part of this page from the most recent parts of his existence.  =)  Also, sometimes the digital camera gave him "green eye."  This page may also take a while to load 'cause of all the pictures.

Toby Does Some Climbing . . . On Me

Toby is a rat terrier who was born in the middle of July, 1998.  I was so used to having a puppy/dog in my later childhood and going through high school, etc. that when I came to college . . . something was missing.  So, after looking into what would be a good apartment dog . . . I got Toby from a breeder who placed an ad in the paper in Georgetown.  I saw him, and he was so cute, I just had to have him.  I quickly handed over a bargain of a check for 90 dollars, and embarked on a new journey. This was also sort of a rescue mission . . . unfortunately, it seemed like Toby was mistreated . . . he had ticks, was always scared, tired, etc. I promptly got him all the medical care he needed, and then continued the journey.

Tired Toby

I took him back to my apartment (which did not allow dogs), and everyone loved him . . . he was very difficult to potty train, and that was still never completed when he left Austin.  The apartment complex found out, and they made me get rid of him.  I asked my parents if they could take care of him, and they agreed.  Russell did not get along with him at first, but eventually took to him.  Toby was too little and scared of Russell to pose a threat. =P

Toby Scared Even As An Adult

They eventually learned to get along, and they started to like each other.  Russell would always try to make sure Toby would have treats, just like a parent . . . and Toby would always try to get them first, so I guess it worked out. =P Toby also got quite jealous when people would pet Russell, he would come next to them and try to get petted, also.  It's very cute, although my sister calls Toby selfish. =P

Toby And My Dad Chillin'

Russell/Toby play together quite often . . . but, there was another problem.  My parents were getting fed up that Toby's potty training was not going well and that there were stains from his bathroom breaks around the house even after they recarpeted a year later. As it turns out, we figured out later on that this was due to both dogs being alpha males and continually competing for and marking territory around the house. Although these two were wonderful dogs and friends, they couldn't live together any longer.

I agreed to take Toby back to Austin with me and live at my new apartment complex, now that I had moved.  I had roommates, now, so I asked . . . and, they were cool with him coming, and actually looking forward to it.  They absolutely adored him.

Intrigued Toby

And, remarkably . . . when he got here . . . no bathroom accidents.

Toby Lounging By My Computer

Occasionally, Toby liked playing with his Rawhide Toys and this Rubber Spikey Ball I bought him.

A Classic Curious Look

Unfortunately, even my new apartment complex found out, even though Toby is quiet, and I had to take him home, yet again.  Everyone in Austin missed him, had no choice 'cause I did not want to be evicted.  Toby certainly did brighten up everyone's day a number of times. Unfortunately, Russell had gotten quite old . . . and surprisingly Toby has become the dominant one and competes (and wins) for food, treats, resting places, attention, territory, etc. Toby is very friendly to all people, but not Russell, so much, anymore.

Shortly after my graduation from the University of Texas at Austin, I built my own home in Carrollton, TX . . . and Toby lives here with me, now. He is potty trained, but not much else . . . all in all, a wonderful resident in my home. :)
